STANLEY'S KOPJE CAMP
WELCOME TO STANLEY'S KOPJE CAMP
Stanley’s Kopje is the only camp in Mikumi National park set up on a rocky kopje on the Mkata flood plain, it presides over the best game viewing area of the park, the Mwanamboga waterhole.
Stanley’s Kopje perches high on a rocky kopje, enjoying fine 360 degree views over the surrounding Mikumi wilderness, whilst the 12 tents are spaced around the lower perimeter of the hill, with stunning views across the plains. The tents are pitched on high wooden platforms with traditionally built thatched roofs which provide shade from the sun while you sit on your veranda and enjoy the game around the camp.
Stanley's Kopje enjoys the advantage of being the only elevated land in an otherwise flat open plain. A nearby waterhole encourages game within sight of the Camp and the whole Mwanamboga area is generally perceived to be the better game viewing area in the park. The Camp is named after the explorer Morten Stanley, who led an expedition through Mikumi National Park and right past the location of the Camp.
FEATURES
Accomodation - The 12 spacious and airy Meru-style tents generously spaced around the kopje, are each themed around the history of an Explorer or Slave Trader. The tents are pitched on high wooden platforms with traditionally built thatched roofs that provide shade from the sun while you sit on your veranda and enjoy the game around the camp.
Solar Water Heaters have been installed for each room which uses the natural energy of the sun to provide you with hot running water. Water temperature might fluctuate, but being near the equator with intense solar energy, this is not common.
Dining and Bar - The main banda sits at the crest of the hill commanding fabulous 360 degree panormaric views. Built in typical Swahili style with steeply pitched roof, the dining banda surrounds a central bar, with sitting and dining areas facing north, south, east and west!
A little below this building is a shaed sitting area next to the swimming pool, from where you can cool off in the heat of the day, whilst continuing with game viewing from the pool's edge - no missed opportunities.
